Your Career At Thorntons

ThorntonsHere at Thorntons, we recognise the importance of our employees. Having once been a family-run business we have grown into a successful PLC where people are very much at the heart of our organisation.

We value every single one of our employees and see them as a key part of our success. That’s why we do all we can to ensure that every member of our team has the opportunity to develop themselves, both as individuals and employees.

This is why we place so much importance on training and learning at Thorntons. Everyone has a development discussion, which is designed to establish the right training programme to meet his or her specific needs and aspirations.

Training for everyone is based around our five competencies: Customer Focus, Achieving Results, People Skills, Operational Excellence, Living the Art of Thorntons. Linking to these competencies, there are a variety of training solutions available ranging from on-the-job training, practical activities to formal training courses at our Head Office in Derbyshire. These are designed to give everyone the best possible training in their particular role.

In fact, at Thorntons we believe that every role within the Company offers the potential for everyone to progress and develop a long, rewarding and successful career with us. But don’t just take our word for it.

Here are what several of our employees have to say about the way they progressed and developed their career at Thorntons.

“I joined Thorntons in January 2000 as a Store Manager and then worked briefly as a Dual Site Manager. Since then, I’ve been promoted to a secondment role as a Support Manager in central London and have just been successful in the position of interim Area Business Manager covering Derby, Leicester and Nottingham. The support I’ve received from Thorntons has been fantastic. My progression has been down to self-ambition, opportunity and obviously the training that’s been provided. I’m definitely glad I joined the company.”
Jason Purcell, Interim Area Business Manager

“I have been with Thorntons now for 17 years. I joined as a Sales Assistant and progressed through all the retail roles to Dual Site Manager and Area Support Manager. With my own strength, determination and Thorntons investment in me, I was promoted to my current role of Area Business Manager for North West, Scotland. I love my job. I'm passionate about our products, and without the training I wouldnt be doing the job I'm doing now. I am very ambitious and want to continue to develop, with my ultimate goal to be a Regional Business Manager one day.”
Kirsty Wandrum, Area Business Manager
